Time to turn the calendar! This month's EL Calendar photo is an oft-printed one - a hazy May day shot of seven former Erie F-units (F5A, F5B, F5B, FTA-B-B-A) getting ready to depart Maybrook, NY with interchange traffic. The units all still wear Erie black/yellow, with only an EL diamond on the nose and a new number to signify the merger. This angle also demonstrates clearly the spotting features of the "F5" - stainless steel grilles at the top of the carbody, and paired screened openings for the dynamic brakes on the roof just behind the cab (of course, if the F5 didn't have dynamic brakes, you'd never be able to tell it from an F7) The calendar caption contains a few fallacies (what else is new?), calling the three lead units "F7s" and stating that the units have "a general merchandise train through Maybrook, NY" - but really, is there anything that actually runs THROUGH Maybrook? I thought everything ended at Maybrook yard and was sorted out to the various roads that ran there. - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
