(erielack) Snow removel

To all, When I was working on the railroad they used what was called a Jordan Spreader or the old faskion car called a Flqnger which only cleaned between the RAILS andoutside of the rails as far as the edge of ties. Companys did not like to spend money plowing snow as it would melt anyway. The build up of ice between the railes was what caused the problem. It would rub on traction motor housung when it would get high enough and also cause ground relays to happen fron snow getting into the traction motors. Of course if a person didn"t work for a RR they wouldn"t know anything about it. D.J.Heckman former ERIE, ERIE-LACK and of course Good old Conrail Employee ELHE &ELH7TS 3294-59
