Re: (erielack) stock pens

Bruce and List,

Don't forget that by 1960, livestock traffic was rapidly disappearing from the rails, and EL used whatever pens it inherited from its predecessors. Reference to livestock traffic in the EL June 1961 freight schedule is limited to train 100, Chester NY (probably kosher stock) and several trains out of Buffalo. I think the last move occurred in 1967. Erie moved substantial stock traffic, I think most was received from connections at Chicago, Huntington, Lima and Buffalo rather than loaded on-line. DL&W also received stock from Buffalo connections, and I believe hauled substantial on-line poultry business to the NY market.

This topic was also discussed here about a year ago.

Subject: stock pens

Over the past several weeks, I've run into plans and kits for 'standard
stock pens' for other railroads. Did the EL have a standard design for
stock pens that they used, or was each one totally unique? Are there any
plans for EL stock pens?
