Great information, and timely, too, Al , as yesterday I purchased an Intermountain N-Scale DL&W FTA&B  Set. I already have a suitable tender in the shop, and this answers the question as to what to do with the coal bunker.
I had thought of covering it with a rounded top similar to the roof of the Fs. The open coal bunker would make the model more interesting to uninformed viewers here in the Pacific Northwest ! 
Although the IM FTB is not the accurate short B (FTSB) as IM originally promised, it will still be a good conversation piece for those that notice a steam tender behind those nicely painted FTs!
