Re: (erielack) Akron Questions (2)



Somewhere in my slide collection, I have what I believe to be one of the 
last through trains that I photographed, either in '80 or '81, rolling e/b 
coming out of the easts end of Kent yard.

As I recall, tracks laid dormant for a few years before there was any 
substantial work done on removal, including the portion running through 
Akron, sometime in the mid- to late '80's.  Chessie/CSX obviously was 
anxious to reconfigure the diamond at JO, since the skew involved with their 
tracks to cross the EL was less than ideal, and eventually reduced the skew 
and curvature to something more manageable, but involved some realignment 
and possibly, acquiring some of the ex-EL/CR ROW.

I did get out and photograph some of the ROW in places, and I'll try to pull 
those out and sort them for showing at the Western Region meeting in Marion 
on 4/28...
