(erielack) Erie Tablecloths

Listers:

As the restoration of Erie Lackawanna Diner 741 proceeds, ELDCPS has contracted with several Restaurant Industry suppliers to produce reproductions of tableware and china that were once used in Erie and Erie Lackawanna Diners. We have been successful in reproducing the Erie's Strarrucca pattern china, and EL's Grecian pattern silverware. The Starrucca pattern and Grecian silverware were used in Diner 741 during the years EL operated though-line passenger service.

The reproductions are offered for sale on our website, and will be used as historically accurate table settings when 741 returns to service.

Now that we have china and silverware, this brings up the next item. Tablecloths. The Erie, Lackawanna and Erie Lackawanna contracted with linen manufacturers to produce either woven or embroidered tablecloths and napkins. As part of the Erie's modernization effort of its heavyweight passenger fleet in 1949, the Diners were equipped with new tablecloths. These were high quality white linen in the Oakleaf pattern, with a large Erie Diamond woven in the center. These were used into the EL era until replaced with EL embroidered linen. We are fortunate to possess one original dated 1949.

Tim Stuy has located a manufacturer who can reproduce the Oakleaf pattern tablecloth for us, with the Erie Diamond woven in the center, just like the originals. These will be 54"x54", and will be the same quality that was once used by the Erie Railroad. Of course, we intend to use these on the tables in 741.

The tablecloths will be custom woven, and we must commit to purchase a minimum of 200. We would be able to offer these for sale at around $49 per table cloth. My question to all of you is how many of you would be interested in purchasing one to go along with your Erie china?

We also have a price to reproduce the 22"x22" Oakleaf bordered napkin with embroidered "Erie Lackawanna" script embroidered in maroon near the hem on one side. We may have these done along with the tablecloths if there is enough interest.

ELDCPS has not forgotten our Lackawanna supporters, and we fully intend to have the Lackawanna tablecloths and napkins reproduced at a later date, as these will be needed for Phoebe Snow Diner no. 470.

Your comments will be appreciated.

Kind regards,
