Yes, I know, I made a grammatical mistake in my own nitpicking regarding EL Facilities In Color Volume 1; you don't use "it's" as a possessive. Mea culpa, I make mistakes too. Nonetheless, I was talking today with Ray Scott, another Rutherford-area homeboy, and we identified two more things to be noted about the Rutherford-vicinity captions. First, page 31, caption for top photo of BJ Tower: ". . . was converted to an electrical 'EP' type machine." The letters EP usually signify the use of electro-pneumatic switches, i.e. "air" switches as were popular on the DL&W. Just for the record, BJ was straight electric, not air. The only air plants on the Erie NY Division that Ray knew of were Erie Terminal, Grove St., and BR Bergen Tower. Second, page 91, bottom picture, Carlstadt on the NJ&NY, just to the north of Rutherford and East Rutherford. The bottom picture was not taken near the UOP plant to the south (railroad east) of the Carlstadt depot, as implied; the crossing shown is Broad Street, just to the north (railroad west) of that depot, and of the Paterson Plank Road crossing, both shown in the top photo. Also, side point: Ray said that he once rode one of those Saturday Port Jervis passenger locals with 4 RS3s and two Stillwell coaches. He said that he started getting sick to his stomach because of the slack action -- the coaches would bolt forward as the 900's got a fast start out of a station, then lurch back as they made transition. It might have been fun for the first couple of stops, but by Suffern it was more like an amusement park ride gone bad.
