RE: (erielack) Help-EL Signal System

There were indeed a wide variety of signals used by EL, particularly on former Erie routes. The Eries includes upper quadrant semaphores (some along the Southern Tier used well into the Conrail era) and single, double and three target searchlights, the latter in vertical (type D) or triangular (type G) arrangement.

NJ International makes the semaphore, which can be used with the Circuitron driver and Tortoise. Searchlights are produced by several mfrs, but a good starting point is Integrated Signal Systems (the one Schuyler was trying to remember). This outfit was originally based in Rochester NY but several years ago the founder passed away, and his successor relocated the business to Florida. They do custom orders to your specs in any configuration including detectors and drivers if you wish. Their system will also interface with several DCC systems. We used their products at the club and they were very nice signals. I have heard very good things about Bruce Chubb's "DCCOD" block detectors. Block detection is perhaps the trickiest aspect of signalling so do your research. Just in case you're not familiar with the subject you'll also need insulated joiners at the ends of your blocks and one or two resistor wheelsets on each caboose so both ends of your freight train will be detected. These are made by JayBee or you can make them yourself.

ISS is not in the Walthers catalog. Website is http://www.integratedsignalsystems.com/

Something Signal Systems in Rochester NY. They advertise in Model Railroader and RMC, I think.
They have signals which are correct for the ERIE and EL. They can advise you what they have that is
correct. Sorry I can't come up with the complete name.
