List, There had been some duscussion in time past about two Erie locomotive designs that were never built. One was a 2-6-6-4 and the other was a 2-10-4. After studying both drawings in Stauffer's "Erie Power" , I noticed an awful lot of dimensional similarities between the Erie 2-6-6-4 engine, and the N&W "A". I just receieved a book for Christmas about the Van Sweringen RR empire. Gene Huddleston seems to think that the Erie design was the basis for the N&W "A". "Reflections on the Class A" that appeared in the March / April 2004 isue of "The Arrow", the N&W Historical Society publication, said the N&W drew heavily on the Erie 2-6-6-4 for the design of the N&W Class "A". Now the task will be for the ELHS to run down to Roanoke, buy the 1218, put an Erie cab on it, put an Erie 3300 tender behind it with a big Erie ball & diamond herald on the flank, put and Erie headlight on it, and you one heck of a fan trip engine to run from Hoboken to Port Jervis ! LOL Would we number this in the 3500 series? Merry Christmas everyone ! Have a great New year, too ! Rick Fleischer ELHS 1426 Cortland, Oh.
