Bob, Thanks for the reason to look into Taber again. This is what I found on a quick scan. Taber Vol. 1 page 65. ...in 1920 -1921 East Orange Track was elevated both the Morristown line and the Montclair Branch at Ampere. Page 70 Picture of Roseville Ave with three tracks. Dec. 1905 Page 78 "it was not until 1922 when this temporary end of the third track was extended through to Orange." Page 86. "The 1901 annual report mentions constriction of a third track from South Orange to Maplewood." Page 90. "As part of the additi9on of a third track from South Orange to Wyoming Station in Milburn between 1901 and 1903, Maplewood received a new station." Page 91. "When the new Milburn station was built there were only two tracks. In 1914-15 the third track was extended from Wyoming to Milburn." Page 92. "President Truesdale always contemplated extending the third track to Summit where the P & D trains diverge. When the new Short Hills station was built in 1906-07 the westbound waiting room was set back an extra twelve feet so as to accommodate a third track." I hope that is the answer you need Bob. Without locating a copy of Taber, when was the triple track installed. 2. Was there any recent thought of extending the triple track to Summit, especially when the electrification was redone? 3. Could not the line run almost as efficiently with 2 tracks? Ws any thought given to eliminating the third track when redoing the electrification? http://www.elhts.org The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
