Bob,
I had to pull out Taber...
1. The triple track was installed in stages: Newark-Harrison (1900-03),
South Orange-Millburn (1900-03), Mountain Station-South Orange (1914-1916),
Orange-Mountain Station (1916-17), Harrison across Meadows (1920-21), Grove
Street-East Orange (1921-22).
2. Probably not, although it would make sense and the DL&W left sufficient
right-of-way with this extension of the 3rd track in mind.
3. No, I lived in South Orange (near the tracks) for 30 years. No
question...the 3rd track is definitely needed.

I rode the M&E to New york on Tuesday and I thought of some questions on
the triple track from Newark to Milburn.
1. Without locating a copy of Taber, when was the triple track installed.
2. Was there any recent thought of extending the triple track to
Summit, especially when the electrification was redone?
3. Could not the line run almost as efficiently with 2 tracks? Ws any
thought given to eliminating the third track when redoing the
electrification?
