RE: (erielack) Is the 1959 date of this photo accurate?

Dates that I have when DL&W E8 units were repainted to "full EL": 


809 (ex-820) - 8/15/61
810 - 1/4/62
811 - 8/6/62
812 - 5/63
813 - 6/62
814 - 8/63
815 - 4/27/61
816 - 4/30/61
817 - 5/6/61
818 - 4/26/62
819 - 6/61

They sure tried to get those DL&W units repainted pretty quickly!

As for the Erie units, earliest dates in GMY paint I have:

820 - 3/62
821 - 10/63
822 - 4/61
823 - 7/10/61
824 - 5/63
825 - 1/2/63
826 - 3/63
827 - 10/63
828 - 9/12/62
829 - 9/63
830 - 5/19/63
831 - 7/15/62
832 - 4/61
833 - 9/17/62

Erie repaints? Not so much of a rush!

Data mining is fun! :)

Based on photos in my collection and details like the yellow-bordered
portholes and Roman GMY scheme, the photo had to have been taken between
4/61 and 6/67.
