Re: (erielack) Newburg Branch

During the four years I worked for the EL I worked the Newburgh haul job
twice. As noted it was a night job that originated in Newburgh (The EL yard
in Newburgh was right along side of Penn Central's west shore main line) and
worked its way to Greycourt yard on the EL mainline and then back. Leaving
Newburgh we had about a dozen cars. By the time we got to Greycourt we still
had about a dozen cars between drop-offs and pick-ups. Newburgh also had
piggyback ramp. The haul would ferry the piggyback cars between Greycourt
and Newburgh. The first night I worked the haul there was a loaded piggyback
car at Greycourt to bring back to Newburgh. However, it was facing the wrong
way. Myself and the conductor stayed with train in the caboose while the
engine crew and the flagman made a run to Newburgh Junction to turn the
piggyback on the wye at NJ. While waiting for them to return a LHR train out
of Maybrook bound for Warwick arrived to work the interchange track at
Greycourt which was over on the eastbound side.
