Should note that this imressive structure was the CNJ freight house in Scranton. The CNJ passenger station was a very small wood structure located along the tracks between Bridge 60 and the West Lackawanna Ave. span. In last years the diesel servicing facilities were at that spot. CNJ roundhouse was at Hickory St. just down over the bank from the DL&W roundhouse. Now the site of an athletic field. Used to visit the CNJ roundhouse all the time as a kid...the one place where they didn't throw me out and the guys there were pretty kid friendly. Getting into the DL&W yard, shops, or roundhouse was like assaulting a fortress specifically designed to keep non-employees out! Back around 1890-1900 there was a grandiose plan to build a "Union Station" in Scranton near this location. After much bickering the whole plan fell through and the D&H and DL&W went on to build their own elaborate depots. The Erie really couldn't figure any reasonable way to get from their Scranton Branch to the location. Apparently the CNJ / O&W decided to make do with the tiny CNJ wood bulding.
