RE: (erielack) Montville Station

I go past the station site on a regular basis and the surrounding
neighborhoods look like they could support a commuter stop again (alot has
happened along the Boonton Line since '66). The major issue, as always,
would be parking. Nevertheless, I could see the need for a stop between
Boonton and Towaco. Obviously, the DL&W did.

I remember seeing this building around '68 or 69. I was in my first
year of teaching at Whippany-Park High School and would take time to
scope out EL property on my way back and forth from home in Wayne. I
was surprised to see such a structure with platform lighting. I assumed
it would be just a three-sided shelter. EL had removed Montville from
timetables around '66 along with Singac and some other stations when
they seriously cut back their commuter service.

Fred,

Yes, the Montville Station was located just off Taylortown Road. The
platform edge is still there today. The station itself burned circa
1970.

There are a few shots on George Elwood's site:

Scroll down and you'll see it. The bridge and steps in the background
are
over/lead to Taylortown Road.
