While I don't recall exactly how many cars Vornado got I'm going to guess the
biggest day was probably about 15 loads in and as many empties out. Except
for the first building which had a loading platform and never got many cars, all
the others had only two rail doors originally. More doors were added later on
to a couple of the buildings. Before that, we would spot whichever car they
specified and shoved the others by. Vornado would use a yard tractor to pull
the cars down with a cable. if we didn't gat back to drill them when the first
car was empty. This worked well until one day the car they were using to
control the move had a defective handbrake and the string dragged the yard donkey
over halfway to Ridgedale Avenue before the guy could hop off and grab another
brake. The grade alonside Murray Road is fairly substantial. Had they gotten
away they would have rolled all the way out to the M&E's main track with ease.
