Like most others, I headed out this morning in search of fall color. Headed
for Kent/Brady Lake. Color seemed a bit dull around here, but there is still
a lot of green too, so maybe later in the week it will "pop". Had plans
later in the afternoon, so packed it in around 300pm, but dug the camera
back out after doing a double take while crossing the old EL main in
Tallmadge,Ohio. Just to the west of the NE Ave crossing was a passenger car,
which was really odd due to the fact the crossing had been removed several
years ago, and for that matter it's probably been 15+ years since anything
has ran on the line. Turned out the car had been brought as far as the
crossing via rail from Kent using the old Portage Limestone GP-8.
Metal plates were then placed over the road and the car towed across the
highway with a dozer. What they were doing today was trying to "rerail" the
car back on to the track, but it had not tracked 100% correct on the plates
and needed to be pulled to the side a bit so it could drop back down on the
rails. I had to get going, but did shoot a few photos of the operation. The
car is destined for a restaurant a bit west on the line, the "Erie Station
Grill". Couldn't make out any former name on the car other than the number
2429.
Bottom line is this I guess- it did my heart good to see something on the
old Erie, even if it was a chore to move it! Now back to our reg sch CSX
program... :-)
      Roger
