Usually you don't get pull-aparts in welded rail.  If a weld is going  to 
break, it will usually fail within a few months of installation, no matter  what 
the temperature is.
 
Welded rail usually just breaks due to a combination of tension, cold snaps  
and a weak spot in the rail.  It is not unusual to see this happen but it  is 
much less frequent than a pull-apart in jointed rail.
