Re: (erielack) Empty milk car question

Paul ( and list)

To further churn this conversation and sour the note about Steamburg milk
being trucked to Salamanca:

The eastbound passenger trains stopped at Steamburg (interlocking), cut the
power off and sometimes held onto a car or two and backed into the Queensboro
Dairy Switch and picked up the milk car or cars. Then double back to the
train, the train crew would put the steam and air back into the train, make the
air test and depart for Salamanca with a total delay of about 10-12 minutes.

I was onboard the locomotive many times when this was done on train 4, and
later train 2.

Westbound empties were sent back west to Jamestown on train 7, in later
years, they moved to Jamestown on freight trains such as X-3, then back to
Steamburg on the local.
