Several weeks ago, someone (Paul T.?) asked about track conditions on the West End. This 2 page bulletin tells the story, and it is a sad one. Note on page 2 Marion Yard tracks are restricted to 5MPH. Also note the mention of a "Pot signal" at North Judson. Pot signal was Erie slang for a dwarf signal.

As bad as this bulletin looks, the former PRR between Crestline, Ohio and Chicago was worse. I copied many a slow order working on this line as a tower operator in the early years of Conrail. Break in twos (where cars actually uncouple due to rough track) were common. Millions were then spent upgrading the former Standard Railroad of the World West End only to have it downgraded and reduced to single track by L. Stanley Crane starting in 1981. But that is a story for another day and list.
