(erielack) Re: UPS Trailers

Actually the 85' cars were common throughout the 70's, although after 1964 all the builders switched to an 89-90' deck. So any of these flats would work; you could even work in a few single-hitch cars of 50-53' length owned by EL or Trailer Train. The Accurail cars are indeed a scale 6" too wide, which of course is barely noticable; they have a few other minor deficiencies which I discussed a couple of months ago. Hopefully the upcoming Walthers release will be more accurate than Accurail's. If you can find some of the Walthers 89' channel-side cars, they'd be fine also.

A minor point here: NY-100 was not a UPS schedule, although it often carried one or two empty UPS trailers back to Croxton (UPS traffic was primarily wb). The primary UPS trains were Second/NY-100, ACX-99 and CX-99.

Dale,

What do you mean by "platform?" A piggyback flat car?

Currently, the closest correct thing are the 89' piggyback flats from Accurail. Apparently, these are a few scale inches too wide, but it's not too noticable.

Walthers has announced their own 89' piggyback flats, of a similar style to Accurail's (I assume they'll be the correct width?)

Athearn has re-released its 85' "all-purpose" piggyback flat, which will also work with the UPS trailers they make, but the 85' cars were far less common on these trains.
