Quoting SMT: >Since your Dad was close at hand, in Olean, I'm wondering......... >Train 7&8 had a working RPO car "Sala & Chic, ED". >Any idea on where the car was added to the train? Did it come out of Hoboken or was it >added at Salamanca? Where did the clerks live? Salamanca area? Any other info would be >appreciated on this. Steve and list, I developed a little more information on this. Dad's friend lived in Castile, NY (another Erie town, on the Hornell - Buffalo line). He commuted to Salamanca, although his home base was at the NY City end. He worked three round trips from JC to Salamanca, and then had ten continuous days off. During this cycle, on two of his three Salamanca layovers he had enough time to drive home to Castile. On the third of the three layovers, he had to get a room in Salamanca. As far as Dad knows, the cars ran straight through, JC (or Hoboken) to Chicago. RPO crews changed at Salamanca, but as far as he knows, the cars were never changed there. Presumably when the crews changed, so did the postal cancellation machines. That's all that he has on the Salamanca RPO operations. Hope that it's of some use to the group. Regards, John R.
