Metro-North is very interested in doing something like this. In fact, I've already had discussions with the various parties who would be involved in the operation of a trip west of Port Jervis (Binghamton was the goal, although track speeds might have made that impossible). Everyone is eager to do the trip, except one important group: the lawyers. Because the insurance requirements are so onerous, even MNR can't meet them. At this point, after much time spent trying to find a way to make it happen, it's pretty much a dead issue. Port Jervis isn't out of the question, though (although the lawyers have some inexplicable objection to that, too - not insurmountable). Don't be surprised to see the Tavern-Lounges on a PJ fan trip in the next year or so. And for those who want to get pictures of the cars over there, they'll be on an inspection train to Port Jervis September 15th.
