It's interesting to note the December 31, 1969 date on that equipment list. Apparently there was a concern somewhere in Cleveland about the physical presence and condition of that equipment, because about one week into December, 1969 Bill Shepherd, Morris Trent (System Mechanical Inspector from Meadville) and I were assigned a project to travel the length of the EL and every branch to find every piece of M/W car equipment and note its location, condition and use. We started from Hoboken and went to Binghamton on both the DL and Erie sides, and then up to Syracuse, crossed over and came back from Utica. I called my office from Binghamton on that Friday afternoon and was instructed to report to Youngstown on Monday morning to be the Asst. Division Engineer on the Mahoning Division (from having been ADE at Hoboken). The weather was lousy, with snow and icy roads, and we were hit with a blizzard right after I got off the phone that Friday. I think Bill and Morris continued for about one more week until Bill came down with pneumonia, and that was the end of the "study." I suppose they took what we had and surmised the rest.
