(erielack) DL&W F3 Questions

Greetings,

I have two questions regarding DL&W F3s as it relates to the HO Athearn Genesis freight and passenger F3s.

1) Did either the freight or passenger F3s have diaphragms between the A and B units in A-B-A sets in the early 1950s? If so, has anyone modeled this and with what diaphragms?

2) I purchased the red emergency light casting and lens from the ELHS for my freight F3s. Does anyone have the yellow paint match for the casting for the Athearn Genesis F3s? My existing bottle of Scalecoat EL Yellow is too yellow. The color seems more toward the orange shade. The article in the ELHS "From the Workbench" by Tom Schmieder references the match for the Stewart F3s using Poly-S CP Orange-Yellow.

BTW, if anyone wants to convert the Accumate couplers that come with the Athearn Genesis Fs to Kadee, the front of the A unit works with a No.58 if you cut off the coupler pocket side mounting lugs. The rear of the A unit and the B units works with the Kadee No.38s. Because of the tight clearance with the rear of the truck, you need to use a 2-56 screw with a small diameter head. I used the acetal 2-56 screws that Kadee supplies with some of their couplers, including the No.38s. Note that Kadee makes two varieties of the acetal 2-56 screws, one with a very small head diameter and one with a normal width head. The normal head screw will not clear the truck frame.

Thanks.
