(erielack) September photo

Randy, I respectfully disagree with your position. Maybe this was the best possible angle at that location at that time of day, but that's beside the point. The fact is, it's a very mediocre photo, and I'm criticizing the publisher for placing it in the calendar. The fact that I paid money for this calendar entitles me to criticize, and I'm not obliged to try to do better because I'm not in the calendar publishing business. I've taken hundreds of RR photos which were lousy because of sun position, pole line in the way etc and I would never expect to see any of them published. If you present photos for public viewing, whether it be a calendar, book or exhibit, there is an expectation of quality, not just content. If the content is unique or unusual, we make allowances for inferior quality. However there was nothing unique or unusual about the September photo, and you'd think the publisher had a better one in his collection; if not, he needs to cast a wider net. And no, I don't ever intend on submitting an EL photo for publication because I don't have any. That's one of the reasons I belong to ELHS and ELHTS and buy EL calendars: I can view content that I was only able to experience firsthand on a limited basis. I will probably continue to buy these calendars because overall the quality is reasonable and the content interesting. But I'll say it again: as a calendar choice, IMHO the September photo stinks.
