I'm a little embarrassed asking this question since I do a lot of Lackawanna steam modeling and should know better. According to the D.L. & W. Classification of Locomotives diagram book, the class is determined by the wheel arrangement and the sub-class by a numeral. Table C, Index & Classification of Locomotive,s gives the diagram page and record page for each wheel arrange and specific engine numbers. Is the diagram page the locomotive class and sub class for the given engine numbers? I.e. No. 724 - 785 is an F-9a Consolidation. I'm working on a modeling clinic for the up coming NOARS/ELHS/ELDCP/NKPH&TS convention and I like point out the correct classification. I typically refer the Lackawanna steam engines by road number and wheel arranges rather than the alpha-numeric classification. Thanks for the clarification, Paul Cappelloni ELHS #1731 The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
