Since your Dad was close at hand, in Olean, I'm wondering.........
 
Train 7&8 had a working RPO car "Sala & Chic, ED".  
 
Any idea on where the car was added to the train?   Did it come  out of 
Hoboken or was it added at Salamanca?  Where did the clerks  live?  Salamanca area? 
 Any other info would be appreciated on  this.
