To the best of my knowledge, the hat badge it real. The button is a restrike. The originals did not have the Scovill name on the back - they said something like "Highest Quality" instead. There was a guy in Mass. who used to sell these things in the 70's and the 80's. The Scovill Manufacturing Company was still in business and still had all of the button strikes laying around so this guy had a bunch made up. So they are the same buttons as the "real thing" but were made 20 years later. In the late 1980's the NYS&W ordered a lot of buttons for uniforms for special trips, excursions, etc. So in that case I guess the restrikes are "real". Tim On 7/31/06, Paul R.
