(erielack) [ELHS Members Please Read]

Well Ron Dukarm has done it again! As some may remember, Ron mentioned
he and I were working on adding additional material about the Erie's
Rochester to Mt. Morris electrification to be added to the ELHS web
site. I am happy to announce the project has been completed and is
available now for ELHS members.

We have added 24 images, six maps and a reprint of an article which
originally appeared in the October 1926 Erie's employee magazine. The
images comprise about a dozen supplied by Ron, most of which were taken
by the photographer documenting the project so they are not your usual
views. To this I added images which are in the Syracuse University Erie
negative collection for the stations from Rochester to Mt. Morris. These
same SU images also appeared in the "Next Station Will Be...." Volume XI
book, but significantly more information about the image has been added.

In case you no longer remember how to access the material, please see
the note at the beginning of the Erie electrification article in the
last (latest) Diamond (V20N2) on page 24. You will be promoted for your
user name and password which I am certain everyone remembers. If not, go
to the ELHS Members Sales page and click the link in the second
paragraph for information about user ids and passwords:

http://www.erielackhs.org/ELHS/ELHSMemberSales.html

The pages can also be access from the Erie web site section Prototype
Info link, Along the Right of Way section and clicking the mainline
link. It's listed under the Rochester Division on the page the link
takes you to.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ron Dukarm for his
continued generosity in sharing photographs and information from his
collection with ELHS members and much more broadly with just about any
author or historian who makes a legitimate request. Material from Ron's
collection has appeared in many books for at least the past 15 years or
so I have been able to document. We are very fortunate to have people
like Ron along with the likes of Bill Caloroso and Bob Pastorkey, the
latter two both ELHS members and photo dealers and both who have very
generously shared their collections with publishers and historical
societies as has Ron. Take a minute to thank them next time you see them
at a train show. They all realize history hoarded is history lost. That
IS a hint people! :)

Any errors in the captions or maps are my fault alone. If you find an
error and have supporting documentation to offer to correct it, please
do email me with the information using the webmaster link at the bottom
of the Rochester Division Electrification main page.

Also I'd like to announce the creation of a Yahoo! Group for ELHS
announcements. I strongly urge all ELHS members join the group. It is a
private group open only to current ELHS members and as such you will
need to supply your name, address as it appears on your mailed
publications and your member number when you subscribe. Please allow a
day or two to verify your information. You will receive a confirming
email once it has been verified.

What! Another email list! Well first off it will be relatively low
volume. Also, for the time being it will be used only to send out
updates relating to the web site and other ELHS related announcements of
interest only to ELHS members, it will not be a general discussion list.
If there is enough interest in having one, we can do so in the future.
For now it is a long overdue way to get out more timely information
about updates, events, etc., than a quarterly publishing schedule
allows. Posting ELHS specific information to a general discussion list
has always be a questionable practice in my mind since it is only of
interest to part of the list members. Now there is a more appropriate
place for such information to be disseminated.

To join the group, send an email to:

ELHS-members_announce-subscribe_@_yahoogroups.com

Please remember to include the information requested above. Also, please
DO NOT email me at this email address about web site or list questions,
send them to:

webmaster-at-erielackhs.org (replacing the -at- with the @ of course)

Again, I strongly urge all ELHS members join the group, there are many
other projects in the works for the web site which I believe you will
find informative. I also want to take advantage of the group member poll
feature and the more members there are the more meaningful it will be.
If you know other ELHS members who are not on this email list but are
online, please pass the information along to them.

Oh, something else for those not familiar with Yahoo! Groups, you can
elect to receive individual emails or a digest just as on this list, or
you can chose a third option to read the posts when you log in to the
group so you can opt not to receive any email at all if you like. I find
this latter option very handy myself, but it is only useful if you check
a group regularly.

Sorry for the long post.

Regards,

Will Shultz
