I work in the industrial automation business and I have been amazed at how
GE "abandons" their older products. I am working with two major
manufacturing customers who cannot get parts for their GE programmable
controllers. GE's solution is for them to throw the whole thing out and buy
a newer model - in one case a $150,000 project. Last week one of these
customers was down and we literally had to buy a part on ebay to get them
running again.

If this policy is followed in the locomotive business I can see why there
are so few older GE locomotives around.
