Not much was said about the July picture. I'm not sure where the caption writer was going with the comments on the New Jersey Turnpike. BTW -- With the state govenment shut down, are they colleting tolls on the TNPK and Parkway? Are those people considered essential? I live in Va now, but I don't think I could have supported Corzine. Anyway, I digress: The comment about the E's being assigned to commuter service because only the "Lake Cities" and trains 20-21, Buffalo trains? How about 10 and 15? Where is the history here! I can remember seeing E's on commuter trains through Mountain View as early as 1964 -65. There are a couple of questions about this picture. The train appears to be running west on the e/bound track unless this section was reversible. I know that the two tracks in the foreground were for the trains that went through Passaic and Paterson. I know they stayed in place quite some time before EL removed them -- does anyone know exactly when that happened. Lastly, in a somewhat cynical manner, I would not have been surprised to see a caption under a picture like this to read: "Due to a shortage of motive power and coaches, Rock Island borrowed an EL E8 and Stillwell coaches for their Chicago commuter service." --That's how silly some of these captions have come to be.
