Rich, I'm guessing the Vice Principal was the late Jack Middleton? I recall when he retired in the mid 1980's there was some sort of private car special for him run by the Morristown & Erie. The Vice Principle of our school was a railfan. About an hour after the crash I was paged on the PA system and told to report to his office. He told me what had happened and said let's go see what happened. So we left school and went to the site. We roamed around the area for about an hour and took some photos (he took me home first to get my camera) and then we went back to school.
