Resales! Good thinking -- I hadn't considered that aspect. Of course, at that point, economics of operation goes out the window. And yes -- at least one of the 2-8-2s (I can't call a Chinese locomotive a "Mikado") is still running: NYS&W 143 (FINALLY! List Content!) For maintenance and inspection, they should import some of the Chinese who are/were doing it over there. They'd be glad to get here; we'd be glad to have them: Win-win. Unless "win win" means something bad in one Chinese or another. So -- can we look forward to Susquehanna 144? Or would that be gross? Randy Brown - -------------------------------------------------------------- Resales, plain and simple. Possibly parts also. Look at how many of the SY-class came over. . . the only issue here would be trained labor and maintenance issues. Steam lasted so long in China because even though it was more labor intensive, the labor was cheaper than the savings from less man-hours in each engine. Bill K.
