Schuyler, I believe you're thinking of the Lehigh Valley and the transshipment of coal at Waverly, NY. And of course later the LV layed the third rail to Buffalo on the Erie from Waverly to Buffalo and ran their own trains. The DL&W's outlets were Ithaca via the C&S with the Erie doing the haul from first Great Bend, PA to Owego, NY then from Binghamton to Owego and later Syracuse and Oswego via the SB&NY. The Erie did not cross the state line except for along the Delaware in several places where it was absolutely necessary. West of Binghamton...sorry, no.
