If that was the case, when did the predecessor to the New York Central reach Buffalo? I thought there was a connection around that time...was there a bias against the Erie or any railroad going there? Also, what was the issue with making the Erie start in Piermont and not Jersey City? I know that NJ gave it some problems but I don't remember what... - -----Original Message----- From: erielack-owner_@_lists.elhts.org [mailto:erielack-owner_@_lists.elhts.org]On Behalf Of Janet & Randy Brown Sent: Sunday, June 04, 2006 2:02 PM To: erielack_@_lists.railfan.net Subject: Re:(erielack) Buffalo Question The New York State legislature, heavily influenced by the Erie Canal, wouldn't give the Erie a charter to Buffalo. Randy Brown - -------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for the info, Ron. . . The other obvious question is since it was apparent almost from the get-go that Buffalo was going to be the major eastern L Erie port, why did the Erie not make that it's western terminus instead of Dunkirk? I can hardly wait for the Omaha story!
