Ed, The S-2 and the RS-1 are indeed from the same litter, both used the 539 diesel engine and basically the same electrical components. Keep in mind too the RS-1 was first produced before the entry of the United States into WWII and as most Susquehanna fans (and Rock Island, Milwaukee, Atlanta & St. Andrew's Bay and Tennessee Coal & Iron fans too) know, its RS-1's were commandeered my the military, had the AAR Type B two axle trucks replaced with three axle trucks and became Military RSD-1's. RS-2's and later Alco units used the 244 engine until the 251 replaced it in the mid 1950's. Is the S2 more related to the engine and electrical components in the RS!/S1 or the RS2? The locomotive looks more like an RS1/S1 design. > Ed Montogmery > > The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
