I was surprised at the yellow over spray on the fuel tank.  My impression has been that the craftsmanship of the shop forces at Hornell was one of great professionalism and pride in their work.  This is uncharacteristically sloppy!


It's not "sloppiness" - this is how EMD paints the units. The yellow goes on first, then the sill stripe is masked off and the fuel tank is painted yellow. For some odd reason the SD45-2's were quite prone to having the black paint along the top of the fuel tank come off (look at other late-EL photos of these units and you'll see what I mean)
