Here is a question for the archivists on the list. I have several old "Official Guides" and ORER's dating back to 1933 and some are falling apart. I understand that these books where never intended to survive this long but I would like to take some action to keep them from deteriorating any more than they have, or at least slow the process. The 1933 book is actually in very good shape while several books from the mid 1960's have not faired as well. What steps can the average home owner take to preserve these books? All rooms in my house are climate controlled including the basement. I have shelf space available on book shelves in the living space as well as storage space for containers in a utility room.
