Continuing on the brownfields of the Meadowlands, I saw a sign on the fence (east side of the PV Line, across from Lowe's) yesterday that had the name of another company on top (prob the company handling the hazmat remediation) and UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS SITE written below it. So to everyone that answered with information on this area, thanks and completely confirmed. I do have a few more questions though 1) Which track, exactly, is the one referred to as the Merchant's Lead? Is it the one where the NS engine is sitting every morning? 2) On the west side of the tracks, near Secaucus, is a large warehouse that has a faded US Trucking Company sign on it, but also remnants of a rail loading dock (several concrete block filled bays facing a now-gone siding...and possibly a large door where boxcars could roll in). Anyone familiar with EL operations there? 3) Near the Route 80 overpass, on the east side of the tracks, is a plant with what looks like 2 very old riveted tank cars painted green, minus trucks and wheels, mounted on a steel frame. Am I seeing things or has anyone else experienced this oddity? 4) What industries were in the Meadowlands (south of Hackensack, through to the drawbridge) in Erie/ EL days? We have brought up Bendix/Allied Signal, and Universal Oil Products. However, there are a lot of brownfields and rotting sidings out there...I think someone also mentioned a coke plant in the Meadowlands as well... - -----Original Message----- From: erielack-owner_@_lists.elhts.org [mailto:erielack-owner_@_lists.elhts.org]On Behalf Of JG at graytrainpix Sent: Sunday, April 02, 2006 10:23 AM To: erielack_@_lists.railfan.net Subject: (erielack) Pascack Valley Line (NJ&NY RR) **** Crossing the Pascack Valley Line just around Teterboro is a concrete and steel footbridge to nowhere (kind of in the area of the new Lowe's home center). I forget what used to be on either side of the tracks there, but it was def. a PV Line customer because there are remnants of a siding nearby. Anyone have a sharp memory? **** My memory is mostly toast. However, Lowes is in East Rutherford, just south of the old Carlstadt station where Paterson Plank Road used to cross the line (now an overpass). It is on the site of a former chemical plant, Trubeck, then later UOP (Universal Oil Products?). I think that the plant was on both sides of the line, thus the footbridge, which may have also carried pipes over the tracks.
