The Cleveland-Youngstown service was, to my knowledge, not subsidized...

My understadning was that the service had a gradual slow decline, and in the 
later years, was used primarily by EL employees commuting to the EL's 
corporate offices in the Midland Building (adjacent to Terminal Tower).

I'm assuming that after 4/1/76, some of the EL corporate offices were kept 
running (albeit with a much smaller staff) to dispose of EL property not 
conveyed to Conrail; settle bankruptcy issues/debts, etc. which meant fewer 
employees taking the train in - I'd be curious to know what ridership was 
like in the period from early '76 until the last train on 1/14/77...
