So Conrail prohibited getting on an off moving equipment.  Railroads also
took footboards off locomotive pilots, and board walks off the tops of box
cars.  Before that, they changed link and pin couplers for Janney couplers,
and augmented hand brakes with air brakes; and threw away the push poles.
