Sure, this is the area between the Long Slip and what's now Newport Mall etc. Was that the Lackawanna yard? Hmm maybe time to add some stuff to "the big map?" ;-)

There are actually a couple of those light towers still there, over near the cement plant next to the Long Slip, and in the no-man's land close to the Holland Tunnel ventilator. (Used to ride my bike around there in the '80s...)

You can see the top corner of the Lackawanna Warehouse just above the rightmost handrail on the engine. You can also see some catenary supports way over there to the right. I think that silver oil storage tank all the way over to the right is still there, next to the shopping center on Henderson Street, though it may have been taken down recently along with a big chunk of the old viaduct there.

>Weren't those Western Fruit Express or Pacific Fruit Express reefers in the picture? The Union Cold Storage Terminal was in operation up until 1992 or so if I understand the aticles correctly (though it could have closed anytime between 1986 and then). Looking at a map it looks like north to south, it was the Union Terminal, the Holland Tunnel entrance, then the Newport Center Mall. What/ where was the rail link between the Union Terminal area and the Erie areas to the south?

I find that this is one area were I didn't download the Sanborn maps when they were "open" a couple years ago. Does anybody else have them? From the index I have it looks like the relevant maps would be sheets 19-23.

Here's that earlier photo (way earlier!) posted last year from another location nearer the Cold Storage.
