Yes in part; they certainly weren't headed for the floats. I reviewed the
SF-100 consist of 1974 that you re-posted a while back; this was the EL
train most likely to haul carload perishables. It includes 4 PFE reefers and
1 insulated/heated boxcar (this was February):

UPFE 450934 frozen veggies for MERREFRIG in Secaucas (Merchants
Refrgeration? sounds like a CS Warehouse)
SPFE 451409 other food products for A&P in Secaucas, Rule 705 which I assume
concerns refrigeration parameters
UPFE 460218   ditto
UPFE 460420   ditto
RBBN 64532 other food products for Globe Products in Clifton, Rule 580 37
deg heater service

Looks like I was wrong about the supermarket warehouses, at least with A&P.
Four reefers isn't much compared with the large blocks handled in prior
years. Paul, can you post the Croxton photos?
