From lister Rich Wisneski, here's a great series of photos showing the big
changes happening at the former DL&W Newark Broad Street station!

DSC00116 looks south into the pedestrian tunnel. Note the old pieces of
rail in the tunnel walls, not sure what the story is with them.

DSC00117 looks west on the north side. The angle mark on the concrete wall
was the stairway area inside the westbound waiting room. The scaffolding
structure (temporary platform access goes over the former westbound building
location. The small bits of canopy on the platform are all that remains of
that structure.

DSC00126 is a shot from across the tracks looking northeast and shows the
little bit of canopy that remains on the westbound side.

DSC00121 looks east at the former track 3 bridge over Broad Street. The
bridge over University Place has been removed. The I-280 exit ramp to Route
21 is on the left.

DSC00119 looks west at the bridge over University Avenue. The track 3 (north
side of the railroad) span was removed last week.

DSC00129 is an overall site view taken from Broad Street looking west
towards the station. The Newark City Subway extension to Broad street is
visible on the left.

DSC00124 shows the construction work on the eastbound station building.
The elevator entrance will be in the area where the plywood is. This
apparently is where the Western Union Telegraph office door once was, so it
is not inconsistent with the original design.

DSC00127 is taken from the eastbound platform looking down onto the Light
Rail construction between University Avenue (Foreground) and Broad Street
(Background). Note the diamond crossover for the Light Rail.
The red tractor trailer was used earlier this week to move the track 3
bridge span. The truck is sitting on Lackawanna Place, which at one time
was Morris & Essex Avenue and as I understand it was the original alignment
of the Morris & Essex RR.
