(erielack) Binghamton gasoline suppliers

Bradford and Wellsville are closer to Binghamton than the Bayway refinery outside NYC and the refinery in Buffalo. There may have been other small refineries close to Binghamton.
I don't know the consequence of buying gasoline from a refinery 100 miles further than the nearest one but the difference in transportation cost spread over 8000 gallons may have been minimal.
There may have been brand loyalty. Gas from a no name refinery might cause some problems with a cranky car - and a family business selling gas too.
Texaco was the only company to have gas stations in all of the 48 states and they used this fact in advertising.
