Railroads can be very unsentimental about these things. But be happy that
there are tracks on Starrucca. It could be a lot worse. Think of all the
routes that are completely gone where bridges and fill are gone and
buildings are now on the rights-of-way.

My question is this: why do railroads pull unused track up? Why not leave
it
in place and not maintain it? It would seem that if the need arose, they
could put it back into service quicker.
