(erielack) Lake Junction



Hopefully this isn't too far off topic...

The EL would interchange with the CNJ at the latter's Lake Jct. yard in Wharton, NJ. Questions:

1) Was the Lake Jct. yard used for anything other than EL interchange? Was it ever used for Wharton & Northern trains? (which stopped running after 1971)
2) Who "controlled" the Lake Junction diamond? (crossing of EL/DL&W Chester Branch and CNJ High Bridge Branch)  Did the EL have to stop and call the CNJ dispatcher, or did the CNJ have to stop and call the EL one? (the phone booth concrete structure is still there to this very day, though the CNJ diamond is gone)

Also, was the Hercules plant in Kenvil serviced by EL/DL&W, CNJ, or both? (there are still remnants of the CNJ's track into Hercules coming out of Lake Jct yard)
