Water for public use is chlorinated and fluoridated. Chemicals for both
would be shipped by rail. Sodium hypochlorite, commonly used as bleach,
can be shipped as pellets in cars designed to pneumatically convey the
pellets into the plant, or dissolved in water in tank cars. Fluoride can
also be shipped as pellets or solution.
