(erielack) Re: 'race plastics" on Totowa Industrial Spur

As a side note a section of the old DL&W "Water Spur" is no more. This was the branch at the very end of the Totowa Industrial spur. A long abandonded and dormant section of track that ran from Lackawanna Avenue south crossing Route 46 and terminating at the Passaic Valley Water plant in Totowa. It last saw service in the early Conrail years. .
Due to major construction work rebuilding the Route 46 and Union Blvd. intersection, a large section of the spur has been pulled up or paved over in the last few weeks. One neat item that still remains is the wooden DL&W signal box on the south side of Route 46, Conrail painted it a horrid mint green color many years ago. It's days are now numbered I am sure!
When did the Lackawanna RR consruct this spur off the former mainline? I imagine it was biult to serve only the water plant. Later a few industries popped up along the spur off Riveview Drive and Union Blvd.
Fond memories of watching EL GP-7's creep accross Route 46 was always a thrill when they delivered cars to the "water spur" back in the 70's!
